Donate Life America

There are so many charities and causes out there these days – it can seem impossible to choose something and even more impossible to be helpful in making a change. Don’t spread yourself too thin by trying to save the world in every possible way – none of us have that kind of time and energy – BUT, it is possible and easy to help make a change in the small ways for something that matters to you.

For me, organ donations matter. My father has had two kidney transplants, and without those kidney donations, he wouldn’t be alive today. Thankfully, we kept the donations in the family to lower risk factors and allow my dad to not have to wait on “the list.” But, others aren’t so lucky to have a match.

One way I am putting my fingerprint on my passion for organ donations is by choosing Donate Life as my charity of choice on my blog. Every click from a visitor to my blog helps further their outreach. So, please, click on the link to the right to help Donate Life! ♥

Organ Donation Statistics

United States

  • More than 100,000 people need life-saving organ transplants in the United States.
  • Despite the critical need for organ donors, there were just 7,983 deceased organ donors in the United States in 2008.
  • Each day, an average of 18 people die because of the shortage of organ donors.
  • Every 11 minutes, a new name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
  • Each year, more than one million people need life-saving and life-improving tissues, whole eyes and corneas.

New York

  • In New York State, more than 9,300 people need life-saving organ transplants, of which approximately 7,500 people are listed in the greater New York metropolitan area, the region served by the New York Organ Donor Network.
  • Yet in 2008, there were just 373 deceased organ donors in New York State, 251 of them in the greater New York metropolitan area.

  1. Enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry at
  2. Inform your family that you have given your legally binding consent to be a donor.

“Organ and tissue transplants offer patients a new chance at healthy, productive, normal lives and return them to their families, friends and communities. You have the power to change someone’s world by being a donor. It’s about living. It’s about Life.”
